Satellite Atlas Of The World
Based on a true (not simulated) view of Earth from 800 kilometres into space (that’s 100 times higher than Everest), the images in this atlas have been created by processing signals gathered in space by satellites circling the Earth in near polar orbits. Study the fragile beauty of our planet, from the Amazon’s disappearing rain forest, to Africa and Asia’s spreading deserts, to the savage beauty of the wild canyon landscape of the Colorado Plateau.

Collins Fold Out Atlas Britain
A revolutionary new road atlas of Britain with large pages folded into a more portable sized product. The atlas has detailed road maps, a selection of urban maps of major cities and a wide range of town centre plans.
A brand new style of atlas for 2009 - it’s bigger on the inside than the outside - a bit like Dr Who’s Tardis. The atlas is divided into clear, easy to use colour coded sections to help you find the scale best suited to your requirements.
The neat, easy to handle, portable format is ideal for use in the car and easy to store on the bookshelf. Despite the compact size of the atlas each mapping page folds out to reveal a large area of mapping at a scale of 3.2 miles to 1 inch. The handy spiral binding means that the atlas lies flat and can be folded back on itself for ease of use.
The atlas includes:
- Route planning section including maps for long distance route planning, motorway services information and a handy distance calculator chart.
- Easy to use, clear road maps at a scale of 3.2 miles to 1 inch (1:200,000) for England, Wales and Southern Scotland and 5 miles (1:316,800) in Northern Scotland.
- 20 urban area approach maps at 1 mile to 1 inch which clearly show the best routes through and into the busiest built-up-areas.
- 64 street maps focussed on town centres showing places of interest, car park locations and one-way streets.
- Fully updated fixed speed camera sites with the roads covered by average-speed cameras clearly highlighted.
- Locations of alternative fuel sites (LPG, Biodiesel, Bioethanol, Natural Gas and Electricity recharging points) as supplied by the Energy Saving Trust.
- Map showing the risk rating of Britain's major roads, courtesy of the Road Safety Foundation.
- World Heritage Sites located with contact details and brief descriptions.
- Over 30 categories of places of interest including castles, theme parks, sports venues, universities, mountain bike trails and surfing beaches.
- The top 1000 most visited places of interest are indexed with full postcodes to aid integration with satnav systems.
An ideal purchase for those who want a handy compact sized atlas without compromising on the map detail.

Two-In-One World Atlas
At last, here is a unique and prestigious atlas that enables a direct comparison between the ‘built’ environment that man has created, and the natural world onto which it has been superimposed. By placing conventional physical maps next to satellite maps of the same region, you can compare two entirely different views (at the same scale and projection) simultaneously side-by-side on the same double page spread. The satellite mapping is created from highly accurate, one kilometre resolution satellite cartography enhanced with elevation data giving the final maps a breath-taking third dimension.
A special 8-page section is devoted to showcasing stunning satellite images of major cities and contrasting areas of geographical interest including London, New York City, the Arabian Desert and Antarctica. This superb atlas also contains a fascinating overview of the complex processes by which satellite images are created.
This new and distinctive approach to atlas mapping provides a unique insight into the relationship between man and his environment and opens new perspectives on the important issues in the world today.
