The Earth From Space Mural

The satellites from which the pictures were taken to create this remarkable map orbit the earth at an altitude of 800 km (500 miles). Hundreds of images taken in 1996 were used to create a mosaic base image, to which was added further information in the form of shaded relief imagery to enhance the topographical details. Bathymetry (the science of analysing the depth of the ocean floor) was used to do the same for the sea areas. This map would be a fascinating and unusual gift for armchair explorers everywhere.
